Prepositional Spirituality #4 – Christ through You
A little girl and her mother were talking as they walked out of a church. The mother asked her daughter how she liked the worship service that day. The girl replied that she thought it was good, but she was a little confused.
She said, “The pastor said that God was bigger than we are. Is that true?” Her mother responded that it was true.
“He also said that God lives inside us. Is that true, Mommy?” “Yes.”
“Well then,” said the girl, “if God is bigger than we are, and if he lives inside us, then shouldn’t some of him show through?”
This cute story points to the heart of what it means to be a Christian. Christianity is not just Christ for you and with you and in you, though these are all significant.
Christianity is Christ living his life through you. Something of God shows through.
• Christ thinks through you, loves through you, speaks through you (Colossians 1:27).
• The living Christ grows within you, bears fruit through you, releases his personality through you (John 15:5).
• The Spirit of Christ energizes and strengthens you for everything God calls you to be and do.
Bill Bright, founder of Cru ministry, said, “If I am controlled and empowered by Christ, he will be walking around in my body, living his resurrection life in and through me.”
The Christian life is more than attending worship services or acquiring head knowledge. It’s learning to give Jesus Christ total access to our lives so he can live his life through us.
Henry and Richard Blackaby ask: “When others watch you face a crisis, do they see the risen Lord responding? Does your family see the difference Christ makes when you face a need? What difference does the presence of Jesus Christ make in your life?”
Paul could declare, “I can do all this through Christ who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
God wants to reveal himself to those around you by working through you. He wants your family and coworkers to see Christ in you every day. God wants to express his love and power and wisdom through your life. When you give him access, Christ lives through you.
