Day 44 – Everything is Possible
Brother Lawrence said that “everything is possible for one who believes, still more for one who hopes, [even more for one who loves,] and most of all for one who practices and perseveres in these three virtues.”
Jesus challenges us: “Everything is possible for one who believes” (Mark 9:23). The psalm writer tells us: “Put your hope in God” (Psalm 43:5). God’s Word repeatedly calls us: “Love the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 6:5).
Everything is possible for one who believes in God, hopes in God, loves God.
Everything. Only believe. Merely hope. Simply love.
Master one. Master two. Master all three.
For Brother Lawrence living out these three core virtues produces a synergistic effect. Combining faith, hope, and loves produces an exponential spiritual dynamic that propels us into the depths of God.
Everything is easier when we believe. Easier more when we hope. Easier even more when we love. And easiest of all when we carry out all three – faith, hope, and love.
Consider the father whose son was controlled by an impure spirit in Mark 9:14-29. To Jesus he acknowledges his faith while admitting his unbelief. “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24).
The father could describe: A parent who has been disappointed a few too many times. A skeptic who has little faith. A person who is doing their best to have faith. A person of faith who is honest enough to admit their doubts.
We can echo and add to the father’s words: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief! I do hope; help me overcome my despair! I do love; help me overcome my lack of love!”
This kind of honest praying resonates with God, shapes our character, and receives an answer from heaven.
The object of our focus is not our faith, hope, or love. The object of our focus is our faith, hope, and love in God.
Only believe in God. Merely hope in God. Simply love God. Then “everything is possible.”
Question: What is the Holy Spirit reminding you today, “Everything is possible as you believe . . . as you hope . . . as you love”?
This is God’s Word for you today,
