Day 26 – Who Else Is On Your Path

One tribe of the early Native Americans had a unique practice of training their young braves.

The story is told of one young boy on his thirteenth birthday. After learning hunting, scouting, and fishing skills, he was put to one final test.

He was placed in a dense forest to spend the entire night alone. Until then he had never been away from the security of his family or tribe.

But on that night, he was blindfolded and taken several miles away. When he took off the blindfold, he found himself in the middle of a thick woods. And he was terrified.

Every time a twig snapped, he imagined a wild animal ready to pounce. The path of his future seemed bleak.

After what seemed like an eternity, dawn broke, and the first rays of sunlight entered the deep forest. Looking around, the boy saw flowers, trees, and the outline of the path.

Then to his astonishment, he saw a man standing just a few feet away from him, armed with a bow and arrow. It was his father. He had been there all night long.

We sometimes feel like that boy. We are on the path that God has for us. But we feel alone, fearful, engulfed by darkness. Yet even the thickest gloom is no obstacle to God.

That’s what our Scripture affirms: “The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. . . . He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake” (Psalm 23:1, 3).

You are not alone, for Jesus the Good Shepherd affirms, “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20, NLT2).

Our Good Shepherd is also armed for battle as the Warrior King. “The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves” (Zephaniah 3:17).

Someone else is on your path with you – your Wonderful Savior, Good Shepherd, and Warrior King Jesus.
